Backed by over 15 years of electronic filing experience, TaxMe has applied the same proven technology and design principles used in developing its 94x series—one of the top electronic filing solutions in the market—to the 1099 platform. This experience, combined with TaxMe’s unique facial recognition capabilities, has resulted in a modern 1099 filing system that is proven to dramatically speed up processing while improving accuracy.
TaxMe’s new 1099 web forms are designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, while significantly accelerating the processing of electronic returns. Years of real-world filing experience have shaped a system that reduces errors at the point of entry and ensures properly formatted data before submission.
TaxMe now supports two ways to prepare Forms 1099, while maintaining the same validation and formatting standards across both methods. This means you get consistent accuracy and error reduction regardless of how you enter your data.
For filers with a smaller number of recipients, entering information directly into the TaxMe web form is simple and efficient. This path is designed for quick entry, clear review, and clean output without requiring any template preparation.
For bulk filers, the Excel template upload is the biggest productivity gain. It allows you to prepare recipient data in batches and populate the web form quickly, dramatically reducing manual entry time while still applying the same validation rules used throughout the system.
Based on experience with legacy formats, CSV-based uploads often produced improperly formatted or corrupted data during processing. The new Excel-based approach preserves structure and integrity, resulting in cleaner submissions and fewer preventable errors.
For users who need to upload multiple recipients quickly, TaxMe now supports uploading recipient data using an Excel template. Based on experience with legacy upload formats, CSV-based systems often resulted in improperly formatted data and corrupted values during processing. The Excel-based method preserves structure and integrity, improving accuracy and reducing processing issues.
TaxMe’s facial recognition technology can be used to populate issuer data instantly. Combined with recipient Excel uploads, these improvements reduce preparation time by more than tenfold compared to traditional workflows.
Users can now download their 1099 forms in real time, allowing a thorough review of the data before submission. This ensures the issuer can confirm information is correct prior to authorizing the filing for processing.
Legacy workflows required users to wait 2 to 4 hours to receive generated forms. With the new TaxMe process, PDF generation is available real-time, allowing users to review their forms sooner without waiting for a long batch cycle.
Separately, once the user authorizes the submission and the corresponding fee is paid, TaxMe transmits the electronic return and IRS acknowledgments are generally processed the same day.
This new process benefits both issuers and TaxMe’s backend operations. Higher data accuracy reduces system load, simplifies transmissions to the IRS, and minimizes back-and-forth communications because common errors are eliminated earlier in the process.
This process also enables users to submit corrections to an original 1099 submission—something TaxMe previously did not support on the 1099 series, or supported only in very limited scenarios.
Although Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) is not supported at this time, state information is printed on the information returns so issuers can file with their state authorities if they choose to do so. The CF/SF program does not impact the recipient of the form—it is primarily a data-sharing convenience between federal and state authorities, and participation varies by state.
TaxMe also supports electronic delivery of Forms 1099 to recipients by email. This is an optional feature and is enabled by providing an email address in the recipient section of the web form. During preparation, the email field is not enforced, allowing issuers full flexibility when entering recipient data.
If a recipient email address is provided, delivery is handled automatically after the IRS acknowledgment is accepted. At that point, TaxMe triggers an email to each recipient whose email address was supplied.
Each recipient receives only their own form. The attached document is encrypted and protected by a password that only the intended recipient can use to access their information, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
